Road Safety Tips

Observe Speed Limits

Always adhere to posted speed limits. On Goa's coastal roads, the limit is typically 40-60 km/h. Speed is the #1 cause of road fatalities.

No Phone While Driving

Using a mobile phone while driving increases accident risk by 4x. Use a hands-free device or pull over safely before taking calls.

Rest Adequately

Fatigued driving is as dangerous as drunk driving. Take a 15-minute break every 2 hours. Do not drive if you feel sleepy.

Maintain Safe Distance

Keep a safe following distance — at least 3 seconds behind the vehicle in front. Double this in rain or fog.

Drive Carefully in Rain

Goa experiences heavy monsoon. Reduce speed, use headlights, avoid waterlogged roads, and never drive through flooded areas.

Never Drink & Drive

BAC limit in India is 30mg/100ml. Any alcohol impairs reaction time. If you drink, do not drive — call a fellow member.

Vehicle Maintenance

Regularly check brakes, tyres, lights, and wipers. A well-maintained vehicle is a safe vehicle.

Wear Seatbelt

Always wear your seatbelt and ensure passengers do too. Seatbelts reduce fatal injury risk by 45%.

Know Your Route

Plan your route before starting. Avoid sudden lane changes or U-turns in unfamiliar areas.

Insurance Information

Commercial Vehicle Insurance

Third-party insurance is mandatory for all commercial vehicles in India under the Motor Vehicles Act. It covers damages to third parties in case of accidents. As a professional driver, ensure your vehicle has valid commercial insurance — personal vehicle insurance is NOT valid for commercial use.

Personal Accident Cover

Many insurers offer personal accident policies for drivers. These cover hospitalization, disability, and death benefits. PDAG recommends all members hold a valid PA cover of at least ₹10 lakh.

PDAG Welfare Scheme

As a PDAG member, you are eligible for welfare assistance in case of accidents or disability. Contact the association for details on claiming welfare support.

Health Insurance

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (Ayushman Bharat) may cover you. Check your eligibility and enrol if you haven't. PDAG can assist with the enrolment process.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What documents do I need to carry while driving a commercial vehicle?
Driving Licence (valid and appropriate category), Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance Certificate (valid commercial), Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate, Permit (if applicable), and Fitness Certificate for commercial vehicles.
My driving licence is expiring soon. What should I do?
Apply for renewal at your nearest Regional Transport Office (RTO) at least 30 days before expiry. You can also apply online via the Sarathi portal. Do not drive on an expired licence — it carries heavy fines.
What should I do if I meet with an accident?
First, ensure safety. Call emergency services (108 for ambulance, 100 for police). Do not leave the scene. Inform your insurance company within 24 hours. Contact PDAG helpline for guidance and support.
How do I claim welfare assistance from PDAG?
Active members can apply for welfare assistance by contacting the association office or their dashboard. Bring your membership card, relevant medical/accident documents, and a written application. The welfare committee reviews all applications.
Is PDAG membership valid across all of Goa?
Yes. PDAG membership is valid across all districts of Goa. Your membership card is recognised by partner restaurants, businesses, and service providers across the state.
What is the penalty for driving without insurance?
Under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, driving without valid insurance can result in a fine of ₹2,000 for the first offence and ₹4,000 for subsequent offences, along with possible imprisonment of up to 3 months.
